FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Parent FAQs:
Starting ABA Services

My child has challenging behaviors at school. Can ABA services be provided there?

It depends on the setting. ABA teams can provide support in a variety of environments, including schools, homes, and clinics. However, some locations, such as certain schools or therapy centers, may require prior approval or may not allow outside providers to directly intervene.

In some cases, observation may be permitted while direct intervention is not. The best approach is to speak directly with the administrator or decision-maker at the location to confirm what is allowed.

I’ve heard negative things about ABA. Is it a harsh or harmful therapy?

An informed parent is an empowered parent. The field of behavior analysis follows a strict ethical code, which is publicly available through the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB). We encourage you to review these guidelines and use them as a standard when evaluating any provider.

There is a significant amount of misinformation about ABA online. At the same time, there are hundreds of research studies supporting its effectiveness. If you have concerns, ask questions until you feel fully informed and comfortable.

As a parent, you have the right to seek clear answers and make the best decision for your child.

Does my child need ABA therapy?

Ethically, providers cannot tell you that your child “needs” ABA. Instead, we help assess your child’s individual needs and connect you with appropriate services.

ABA may be beneficial if your child:

  • Is experiencing developmental delays compared to peers
  • Does not have a consistent way to communicate
  • Displays frequent or severe challenging behaviors

While effective interventions exist, the decision to begin therapy is always the parent’s choice.

How do I start the enrollment process?

Getting started is simple.

First, complete our 30-minute consultation request form. During the consultation, we’ll discuss your child’s needs and identify how we can help.

If we’re a good fit, we will begin the assessment process while simultaneously applying for insurance authorization.

For more details about the process and our approach, please refer to our Resources PDF below, โ€œWhat is ABA?โ€ and โ€œThe i:ON Differenceโ€.

What age groups do you serve?

Getting started is simple.

We provide services for children and adolescents ages 2 to 21, supporting individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder Levels 1–3.

What insurance do you accept?

We are currently in the process of enrolling with major insurance providers. For the most up-to-date information regarding coverage, please contact us at

Can I observe sessions? Can siblings be present?

Yes, ABA strongly values family involvement.

  • Parents are encouraged to participate, especially in developing communication and motivation strategies
  • Siblings can be included in play and social skill-building activities

Consistency across caregivers is key to success, especially for behavior reduction programs. Parents are not just observers. They are essential members of the team.

Think of it this way: you may not be the quarterback, but you are a crucial player in every part of the game.

What is expected from parents during ABA services?

Each provider will outline specific expectations, but generally, parents are encouraged to:

  • Participate in training sessions
  • Practice strategies outside of therapy sessions
  • Communicate regularly with the treatment team

Your involvement plays a critical role in your child’s progress.
